Biography

My name is Sarah Savoie, I am a third-year student at the University of Ottawa, and I am obtaining my Bachelor of Art with a major in history and a minor in philosophy.

I undertook this project for my Canadian Digital Tools history class (HIS3375) with Professor McCutcheon.

The reason I have selected this topic is beacause I wanted to find information on Canada's wartime media and filter it all onto one single webpage, which would make it easier to access files and information without having to research it all separately. Much of Canada's wartime media is found in various locations, and there are endless resources, which makes it difficult to access everything, and it takes time to go through all the sources. The website is designed to provide users with information on recruitment, rationing, patriotism, victory bonds, and the overall war effort, and how it was portrayed in the media. World War One is a topic that will continue to grow and be studied, and there will always be new resources. The website will hopefully make the process of research easier and more efficient for those looking to get a better understanding of Canada's role and the media during World War One.

I have done research on Canada and America's contribution in both World War One and World War Two, for school and work related purposes. I have also done research on soldiers who served in World War One that resided in Oxford County, particularly those who enlisted with the 168th Battalion. My main area of interest in terms of history is American, European, and Canadian history in the twentieth century and onwards. I focus on conflicts such as, the World Wars, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and genocides. I also study social movements for women's rights and civil rights across Canada and the United States.
